Pennsylvania Elks Home Service Program
The Pennsylvania Elks Home Service Program is an in-home care coordination service operated through Pathways of SW PA. A registered nurse provides services to persons who have developmental disabilities. These disabilities include, but are not limited to, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, speech, hearing, and visual disorders. This service is offered free of charge to persons of any age. When a referral is made, a nurse will go to the home to assess the needs of the individual and other family members. Services offered include, but are not limited to:
- Instructing the family in dealing with home care issues such as feeding, positioning, equipment needs, and parenting skills
- Referral to appropriate agencies and community and governmental services
- Acting as a liason person between medical personnel, other agencies, schools, etc.
- Acting as an advocate for individuals to help insure their legal and their human rights
